Unique form as well with 22 1/4" rectangular (unedged) section blade of straight tapering form decorated its full length with patterns made from eye brow shaped punches. Cruciform hilt with expanded ball tipped grip. Ball tipped iron sheath with suspension mounts and brass rings. The sheath and hilt both overlaid in maroon leather comprising tooled built up segments with various tooled designs to the other elements. The leather work of the finest we have seen for and African sword, notwithstanding that the region is famous for its "Morocco leather" work. The form is unique to us as the traditional swords are made for slashing and this one for thrusting only. Fine preservation with wonderful glossy patina. Charming and lovely display.
